Let the Nile carry you into the gold.

The car takes you straight to the boat, and the felucca is yours alone. Your boatman catches the wind as the light turns, and the Nile carries you into the gold with nothing to do but watch.

The one hour in Egypt with nothing to do.

Egypt is a lot. Temples that demand your attention, tombs that ask to be understood, a sun that has an opinion about everything. And then, at the right hour, you step onto a wooden boat with a single white sail, the captain leans on the tiller, the bank slides away — and for the first time all trip, there is genuinely nothing to do.

That is the point of the felucca. Not the sights, though they're there. The rest.

The oldest machine still working

Strip a felucca back and there is almost nothing to it: a hull, a mast, a triangle of canvas, and a person who has read this river his whole life. It is essentially the same boat that has carried grain and stone and people up and down the Nile for five thousand years — no engine, no noise, no fuss. The wind does the work. The current does the rest.

There is something in that simplicity that resets you. The great temples were built to make you feel small before eternity. The felucca does the opposite: it makes you feel, for an hour, exactly the right size — a person on a small boat on a very old river, going nowhere in particular, beautifully.

Five thousand years of engineering, and the best part is still the silence.

The gold, and then the dusk

We put you on the water for the golden hour on purpose. The sun drops toward the western hills — the same hills that hold the tombs of the kings — and the river lights up from beneath, the sails around you glowing, the temples on the East Bank catching the last of it. The tea is poured. Nobody talks much. And then the gold slides into blue, the first lights come on along the Corniche, and you drift back in.

It is the softest hour in Egypt, and the one guests are most surprised to find they loved. Bring it to the end of a long day, or an evening that matters — and let the river do what it has always done.

The engine of the whole thing is the wind, and the only sound is the water — and for an hour, that is enough.

On the day

What you'll experience

The river to yourselves

A whole boat, just for your group — no shared decks, no fixed timetable. The captain sails; you do nothing but watch Luxor go soft on both banks.

The oldest way to move on Egypt

The felucca has crossed this river essentially unchanged for thousands of years. No motor, no noise — only the sail, the wind, and the pull of the current.

The golden hour, timed

We put you on the water for the one hour the light does its best work — the sun low, the water lit from within, the temples on the bank catching fire.

Tea, quiet, and nothing to do

Karkade tea poured, cushions on the deck, and the rarest thing a trip to Egypt offers: an hour with absolutely nothing to organise, decide or rush toward.

What is a Luxor Rising concierge?

Not a guide with a flag and a script. A concierge is one trusted person who understands where you are in your own journey, shares the road with you, and quietly arranges every last detail — the car, the tickets, the right hour, the doors — so all you have to do is be present. You manage nothing. You just flow.

A guide who understands your journey

Someone who listens first — who grasps what this trip really means to you — and then reads three thousand years in a way that speaks to it. Never a memorised tour repeated to everyone.

A companion who shares the road

A real person who knows your name, is on WhatsApp before you arrive and beside you through every day. Someone — never a call centre or a voucher.

Everything arranged, so you just flow

Cars, tickets, timing, translation, the quiet hour ahead of the crowds, and the doors that never open for a coach — all handled invisibly. You never touch a single logistic.

"We've done the big-bus version of Egypt before. This wasn't that. We had Medinet Habu almost to ourselves for the first hour, coffee in hand, and Ahmed knew exactly which wall to stand us in front of as the light came up. I didn't want to leave."

"What sold us afterwards was everything we never had to think about — no tickets, no tipping at gates, no wondering if we were being overcharged. Someone we trusted just handled the whole day. The photos he took on my own phone are the ones now framed at home."
Priya R., London
★★★★★
"I was worried it would feel like a rushed history lesson. It was the opposite — unhurried, personal, and our Egyptologist answered questions for as long as we had them. Worth every euro, and I'm not someone who says that lightly."

Questions, answered

How much is a private felucca in Luxor?+
Our private sunset sail is from €105 for the whole boat — your group only, with hotel pickup, an experienced boatman, tea aboard and all the arranging included. You can find cheaper by haggling with a captain at the bank, but you'll be sharing, on his clock, and sometimes deliberately becalmed to run the meter. Ours is a fixed price, private, and timed for the light.
How long is the sail?+
Around two hours on the water, arranged so you're sailing through the golden hour and out into dusk. Long enough to properly unwind, short enough to leave your evening open for dinner.
What if there's no wind?+
A felucca sails by wind, so on a still evening the boatman uses the current and, if needed, a small tow to keep you moving — you'll still get your sunset on the water. We only work with captains who don't play the becalming game.
Is it good for a special occasion?+
It's one of the most romantic hours in Egypt — an anniversary, a proposal, or simply the two of you and the river. Tell us and we'll add a few quiet touches.
Can we add it to a day of temples?+
That's the classic finish — temples in the cool of the morning, the heat of the day handled for you, and the felucca as the sun goes down. Build it as a day and we'll time the whole arc of it.
